What makes this book series unique, imho, is not the setting or theme, but the quality of the character development and the ability of the writer to create intense scenes that are really not scary and certainly not going to give nightmares or anxiety to children. Too many stories aimed at children have included horrific details, and you will NOT find that here. Fanciful while maintaining a meaningful plot and protecting the innocence of young minds. This was a gift for my granddaughter and she seemed extremely excited when she received the set.
At 62 I am discovering the wonderful world of YA fantasy novels. I have so enjoyed reading these. They are an absolute delight.
I originally bought this series for my 11 y/o grandson. His 13 y/o sister read them as he finished them. Because of their discussions about the books, I decided to try them myself. The series is great. The characters are well thought out and the plot is well developed. A good, clean series.
An excellent youth series that as an adult I thoroughly enjoy. Magic, a touch of romance, adventure, and clean fun!
Love the series and the creativity the writer uses.. she's so clever and funny and these are wonderful stories for children. Not too violent or scary, but more creative, intriguing and inspiring. Highly recommend. And the set is well priced. Delivery was very fast and all in new condition.
Every kid should read these. The stories are fresh and original. Great writing that really pulls you in (even adults!). They are full of magic and lots of lessons to learn about growing up. I would recommend these for boys or girls ages 8 and above - though they may be a little harder for younger readers that are struggling. I believe a good story makes any reader better, simply because it keeps them reading. Great plot lines and character development.
My 9-yr old just finished the Harry Potter series and Septimus Heap was recommended by a friend. My son loved it! It took him several days to "let go" of the Potter characters, but once he got into Heap, that was that. He's finished and ready to move on to something else! Great deal on for the whole series.
